A 2012 study reveals an interesting fact that most Americans value vision more than the ability to walk and or memories. However, a lot us don't take the proper steps to protect our most valued asset. Tucson Optometrist Dr. Zainalabidin, of Head to Toe Healthcare, PLC says a lot of things can cause harm to your eyes. She says, not wearing your sunglasses, poor eating habits, and constantly looking at screens are just a few things that may cause harm to our eyes.
- Watch how much time is spent on Screens Middle aged Americans spend the most time looking at screens, more than 9.5 hours every day! The screen time straining to look at small print can really wear on your eyes. Blinking your eyes to alleviate computer strain, and looking up from the computer screen at least every 20 minutes to give your eyes a break is highly advisable.
- Ensure Tablets, Screens and mobile Devices are 14 to 16 inches away Keep monitors and device screens at arms' length away; approximately 14 to 16 inches away.
- Don't skimp on the Vegetables & Fish Omega 3 has been well documented to be beneficial for your eyes. Look for vegetables with a deep color: kale, spinach, carrots, pumpkin, yams are all examples of antioxidant rich foods.
- Wear Sunglasses Sunglasses help protect your eyes, eyelids and areas around the eyes from harmful UV rays. Ben Franklin stated, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
